Chapter 3 // The Waiting Game

*After the Blackhawks Game, The Brooks House*

"You know," Bianca said, cuddled up next to Logan on his bed, the two were in his room watching videos on the Internet, "I don't think your parents have ever let me stay this late ever since we started dating..."

"Yeah, well they don't know you're still here," Logan smirked, planting a kiss on her forehead.

"One of them does," A feminine voice said, startling both Logan and Bianca.

The pair's heads both shot up over to Logan's bedroom door, where they saw Logan's mom, Kristen, standing in the doorway. She had a smirk on her lips, before looking down at the ground shaking her head. She let out a quick sigh, before turning her head back up to look at her son and his girlfriend.

"Bee," She said, calling Bianca by her nickname, "The Hockey Game ended a couple minutes ago, so your mom and brother will probably be home soon, I suggest you head out now so you can beat them to it, and not get in trouble."

Bianca was shocked at the fact Kristen wasn't mad that she's been here this late, and wouldn't let her mom know, but she took it. "Of course, Mrs. Brooks."

Kristen cringed when Bianca called her that; For the first nearly 16 years of Bianca's life, she had always been "Aunt Krissie", but ever since Bianca and Logan started dating about a year ago, it's been "Mrs. Brooks", and while she was happy Bianca made her youngest son happy, It still felt rather weird, since the two families were so close, they practically had a niece/aunt relationship.

Bianca and Logan shared one last quick kiss, "I'll see you tomorrow morning, I Love You," Bianca told her boyfriend.

"I love you, too," Logan said back, watching as his girlfriend began to walk out of his room, but his mom stopped her.

"Phil thinks you left a long time ago, and he's out in the living room with Kendall, so make sure to take the staircase that leads you into the kitchen and NOT the living room, then leave from the back door in the kitchen," Kristen warned her. Bianca gave her a warm smile, thankful for her advice, before leaving. Then, Kristen returned her attention to her son, who had moved on to watching videos again. He was currently laughing at one video, but after a moment, he could feel his mother's eyes on him, so he turned to see her strong gaze.

"Can I help you?" He simply asked. She let out a sigh, while also closing her eyes in frustration, before talking.

"You're 18, Logan," She stated, "You should be off at University, or in Florida training for Wrestling with James and Logan, but instead...you're still here, in highschool, and acting like a little kid."

"All I did was let my girlfriend stay over a little later!" Logan defended, raising his voice slightly, "How is that acting like a little kid!?"

"All I'm saying is that this whole act you're doing is pissing off your dad, so If I were you, I'd get it together before he does anything about it," She warned.

"What's he going to do, huh?" Logan challenged, "He's an old, retired wrestler, a total burn-out, he can't do crap to me..."

"Just don't push it..." His mom warned again, before leaving the room.

After she left, Logan rolled his eyes, then sighed.

"How about you both go fuck off and leave me the hell alone..."

*Next Day, Lloyd Household, 7:05am*

"Um...sure, okay," Kat said, a little un-easy as she was on the phone, "Yeah, I'll be there...yeah...whatever, bye."

She hung up the phone, as her son Eli started coming downstairs, "Morning, Mom," He said, walking over to the kitchen for breakfast. He expected some type of response from her, but instead he got nothing, which confused him, "Mom?"

"Huh? What?" She asked, being snapped back into reality. Eli rose an eyebrow.

"Everything okay?" He asked, as he poured some milk over his Cheerios.

"Oh...yeah, I just got some weird call," His mom explained, "WWE wants me in Connecticut the first week of October for something..."

"You haven't worked with them for like, 20 years though," Eli mentioned, chewing his cereal.

"I know, that's what's so weird," She said, while putting the milk back in the fridge. After the milk was put away, Bianca came downstairs, in slightly less offending clothing than yesterday, but still offending nonetheless- short blue jean shorts, converse, and a tank top that had a dream catcher on it. She then re-did what her mom just did, and took the milk out, grabbing a glass and pouring herself a cup of milk. She then took a sip from it, before noticing two pairs of eyes on her, causing her to roll hers then grunt.

"What?" She simply asked, looking at her two other family members.

"You really show up at Inconvenient times," Eli said.

"You're birth was an Inconvenient time," Bianca said.

"Can you both shut up," Their mom simply said, "It's too early for this."

"Not my fault you forgot the condom when you and dad accidentally made him," Bianca grumbled, causing Eli to shake his head and her mom to face palm.

"So, your dad's going to be back in a couple hours," Her mom began, "And me and him have some stuff planned..."

"So you two aren't going to be home after school?" Eli asked, taking a bite out of his cereal again.

"We won't be home until like...at least 7," She said, "We'll leave some money for take-out, but other than that, after school come straight home, and stay home," She said, looking at Bianca for the last part, who just rolled her eyes.

A car horn honked from outside, and Bianca dumped her half-empty glass of milk in the sink, while Eli got up to put away his bowl. Eli kissed his mom on the cheek and said bye, before joining his older sister in heading out of the front door to get into the carpool.

"So After School I'm hanging out with Logan and Kendall until Mom and Dad get home," Bianca simply said.

"Well If you're staying out....so am I," Eli said back.

"You don't tell, I won't tell."

"Deal."

***

At Capone High School, the first bell rang, signaling the start of first period. Like yesterday, Leia made the walk through the fine arts wing, into the empty orchestra room to grab her cello. She opened the door to the completely dark room, but when she turned the light on, she realized she wasn't alone.

"AH!" She shrieked, jumping back a little.

"Whoa, It's just me..." She caught herself and realized the voice, then recognized that person as Eli. She took in a deep breath to calm herself, before talking.

"Don't you have a first period class to go to?" She questioned him.

"It's just a study hall," He shrugged, "Besides, If i'm late, I can just tell my teacher I got lost again since It's only the second day."

"Well, what brings you here in my Orchestra room?" Leia asked, causing Eli to raise a questioning eyebrow.

"YOUR orchestra room?" He asked her.

"Well, come on, I may only be a freshman, but I'm the only one who can actually play," She said, getting annoyed by thinking about how bad everyone else was compared to her. Eli chuckled.

"Cocky..."

"I prefer Confident."

"Cocky...Confident, It's still attractive either way."

That made the room get quiet- Did Eli really just call Leia attractive? She couldn't believe it- only a day at this school, and she's realized that In a school full of girls who look like Cinderella, she looks like the two ugly step-sisters. Eli can't be serious, right?

"Well...can I help you?" Leia asked him.

"ACTUALLY, you can," Eli said, a smirk appearing upon his face, "I'm free tonight...and I was wondering...maybe If you're free, too...after school, we could go over to The Blitz, and maybe...you know...chill...just me and you...I Mean, If you want to....?"

"Um...like...you know...a date?" Leia questioned.

"Normally, a date's at night..." Eli explained, "Let's consider this...a pre-date?"

"What's a pre-date?" Leia asked, confused.

"I actually just made it up," Eli shrugged, "But...i guess a pre-date could be like..not a date, but then again, If it goes good, and you end up not hating me, that means we could go on an actual date in the future?"

"I could never hate you, Eli, so don't worry about that," Leia smiled at him, causing Eli to smile back.

"So, after school, I'll meet you back here, and we can walk over to The Blitz?" He asked to confirm.

"It's a date," Leia smiled, but then frowned to catch herself, "Well... a pre-date."

"It's a pre-date," Eli smiled back, before exiting the room. When he left and closed the door, Leia had to stop herself from falling onto the ground.

"Is this seriously happening to me?"

*Lucas' and Zoey's Condo*

The sun was shinning in Downtown Chicago today, right through the windows of Lucas and Zoey's condo. Eventually, It woke Lucas up, though he chose not to wake up his girlfriend since she had been up late dealing with school stuff. After doing his usual routine of quick bedroom exercise, he went straight to the kitchen to make breakfast- Zoey's favorite; white chocolate chip pancakes. Those also happened to be his 'good luck' pancakes.

Growing up, he was told by his Uncle Phil- or Punk, he still wasn't exactly sure what to call him- that "Luck Is For Losers" And that you had to "Go make your own luck". However, Lucas took after his mother in thinking that most of the stuff Phil says happens to be complete bullshit, and he had lots of superstitions as well as good-luck rituals. When Lucas was 13 and wanted to go to Canada to start playing in a Junior league, he was with his dad at the time, who after convincing, warmed up to the idea, but he was positive his mom wouldn't allow it. His dad ended up making White Chocolate Chip pancakes that day for breakfast, and later that day, his dad and mom fought over the topic for hours, but eventually, his dad convinced her to say yes, and a couple weeks later  Lucas was off with a Billet family In Toronto. Ever since, whenever something big is coming up, he'll cook White Chocolate Chip Pancakes- just like he did for the NHL Draft when he went 1st overall, and now, on the day that will decide whether or not he'll actually be playing in the NHL this year.

"oooooh, White Chocolate Chip Pancakes..." Zoey smirked, walking into the kitchen, "You know, you don't need anything for extra luck, you played amazing last night."

"I could have done better," Lucas said, grabbing plates, "You can always play better, always...I should have."

"Do you hear yourself?" Zoey asked him, "You're stressing yourself out over something that's done and over with."

"But what if I didn't play good enough, and that's gonna cost me my spot on the team," Lucas confessed.

"You need to breathe, Luke," Zoey said, as Lucas put a pancake onto a plate and slid it across the counter over to her, "You're a great player, always have been, always will be, and you made people take notice...you have absolutely nothing to worry about..besides," she paused to take a bite of her pancake, "Your Uncle's the head coach, You can always kiss up." Lucas let out a laugh, before grabbing a fork and a knife to start cutting up his pancake.

"I just don't want to leave again, you know?" He asked her, "I mean, spending the summer here in Chicago with you, and my family...I loved it, and I don't want to go back to Rockford and leave this all again."

"And you won't have to," Zoey said, "Watch; You're going to make the line-up, and then, you're going to become the greatest athlete in all of Chicago, and everything will be perfect."

"I really hope so..." Lucas said, taking a bite of his pancakes.

"It'll work out, I promise," Zoey said, causing Lucas to smile.

"And you've never lied to me before," He said, before leaning across the counter to peck a kiss on her lips.

"Damn right I haven't," She smirked to him, "Now, I have a couple hours until I have to head out to Northwestern, so...you're watching last nights episode of The Bachelorette with me."

"Oh no," Lucas instantly sighed.

"Hey, I missed It last night to watch your game," Zoey mentioned, "It's the least you can do." Lucas took another bite of his pancakes, then sighed.

"You are so lucky I love you..." He said, before grabbing his plate, and walking over to the other side of the counter to join his girlfriend.

"Nah, you're lucky that I love you," Zoey smirked to him, before kissing him on the cheek.

"Yep, keep telling yourself that," Lucas said as he and Zoey sat down onto the couch. Zoey let out a fake gasp, before playfully hitting him in the shoulder, before they began watching the show together.

*The Blitz; Eli and Leia's pre-date*

"After knowing him my entire life, I can honestly say Mason is a huge idiot," Eli said, holding the door to The Blitz open for Leia, "But he's a great actor, so It's good we have him in our group."

"I can't believe we actually get to act out Romeo and Juliet in Humanities!" Leia excitedly said as she and Eli looked for a table to sit at.

"I know, my sister said that when she took Humanities, it was boring, but If all we're doing is acting out a play, I'd say it's a pretty good class period," Eli said, as he picked out a table for him and Leia to sit at.

"Does your sister go to Capone still?" Leia asked, tucking strands of her hair behind her ear and adjusting her glasses.

"Yeah, she's a Senior," Eli said, "She's pretty smart and popular, you may know her. Her name's Bianca."

"Bianca Lloyd's your sister?" Leia asked, shocked.

"Yeah, you know her?" Eli asked her.

"Kind of," Leia shrugged, "Isn't she dating that one guy, Logan Brooks?" Eli sighed.

"Yeah....It's weird, his parents and my parents are like, great friends since they worked together, so we all grew up together, and now, they're dating...It's weird," Eli confessed, "Plus, he's kind of an asshole."

"Are you talking about my brother?"

Leia and Eli both turned their heads to look at the girl who said that. While Leia had no idea who the person was, Eli instantly recognized her as Kendall, practically a cousin to him, his older sisters best friend, and the little sister of the guy he just called an asshole.

"Um...Uh..." Eli stuttered, feeling embarrassed.

"Don't worry, I think he's an asshole, too," Kendall confessed.

"I like James and Carlos, but Logan's just...just..." Eli said, stumbling to find the right words.

"He's just Logan," Kendall rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, exactly," Eli agreed. His eye then caught on to Leia across the table, who looked rather uncomfortable. "OH! Leia, this is Kendall, she's Logan's little sister and my sisters best friend."

"You and Logan are twins?" Leia asked, shocked.

"No, but Logan is a triplet," Kendall explained, "However, because he's a dumbass, while my other two brothers are off In Florida to become Wrestlers, he's still here...with me..." Complete annoyance was in her voice at this point.

"So why are you here?" Eli asked.

"Oh, my parents think Logan and I need to start getting more responsible...so," She paused to shrug her shoulders, "I got a job here, hopefully Logan doesn't join me...Now, anyway," She then reached into her pocket to grab a pen and raised up her notepad, "What can I get you, Niners?"

"Um..do you like cheese fries? We could split them," Eli asked Leia. She just nodded, "Alright, bring us a plate of cheese fries and two glasses of water, please."

"No problem," Kendall smiled, before walking away.

"So...since we're on the topic of it," Eli began, "Wrestling...your parents used to do it, right?"

"Yeah," Leia said, "My mom stopped a couple years before she and my dad ad-"

Leia quickly stopped herself. She's only known Eli for two days, and this was only the pre-date, she can't just come out and say she was adopted, right? She doesn't know how this whole 'dating' thing goes quite yet.

"My mom stopped wrestling a couple years before I was born," Leia said, "And my dad stopped about....five years ago, I think?"

"Really? My mom stopped after she got Pregnant with my older brother, and my dad still wrestles, but I think he's planning on retiring soon...I don't know," Eli shrugged.

"Oh, well who are your parents?" Leia asked.

"Uh...hmm...I know this sounds bad, but they go under ring names," Eli explained, "My mom's ring name was rather stupid, so I never even bothered to learn her ring name. As for my dad...um...uh...Angel...Black? I don't know, he's had like a million different names," He paused to shrug, "What about your parents?"

"They went under ring names, too," Leia said, "My mom's was REALLY stupid, like...Princess....? I don't know, something like that. As for my dad, he just used some old plain boring name, I never bothered to learn it, either."

"Well It's still cool that are parents might know each other," Eli smiled.

"Yeah, they were probably friends, you know...Like us," Leia smiled back.

"That would be awesome," Eli said, still smiling at her. They kept smiling at each other, until Eli broke the silence. "So, how long have you been playing cello?"

*Lucas and Zoey's Condo*

"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" Lucas shouted at his tv screen. He was currently playing an intense video games- well he was, he just died. Zoey left a few hours ago for school, so Lucas has been busy at home, trying to occupy his time while waiting for a phone call from the Blackhawks coaching staff to learn whether or not he was starting in Chicago this season or not.

"I swear to-"

He was cut off by the sound of a knock on his door. He sighed, before getting up and opening it, only to see Quentin there.

"Have you heard anything yet?" Quentin asked. Lucas just sighed.

"I wish...you?" Lucas asked him. Quentin sighed as well, before shaking his head. Lucas gestured for him to come in, so he did. He and Lucas both walked back over to the couch, and flopped down onto it.

"Man, I'm about to have a completely panic attack if I don't hear anything from them soon," Quentin began, "I swear I'm ab-"

Quentin was cut off by the sound of his phone ringing in his pocket.

"What the hell are you waiting for, answer it!" Lucas said, looking at his friend who was nearly stunned. Quentin then got back in touch with reality, and quickly answered his phone.

"Hello? Yes, this is he......Yes...Okay..." The look on Quentin's face instantly changed into a much brighter mood, "Really!? Oh...Okay! Yes! Yeah, Thank you!" Quentin hung up, then smiled back at Lucas.

"I made the line-up!" He shouted, as Lucas's face lit up in excitement for him, too.

"That's great, man!" Lucas said, as he and Quentin went in for a bro-hug.

"It's good, but It'll be great once you get that same call," Quentin said, as Lucas sighed.

"Hopefully..." Lucas said.

"No hopefully about it," Quentin said, "You're gonna get the call soon."

"I've been waiting ALL day for the call, and It has yet to come," Lucas said.

"I've been waiting all day, too, and I JUST got it....don't worry, You'll get the call soon," Quentin reassured him.

"Yeah, but how soon is soon?" Lucas asked.

"Dude, get a grip," Quentin said, "You'll get it."

"But wh-"

Lucas was cut off by the sound of his phone ringing, catching him and Quentin off guard. Lucas quickly reached into his pocket to pull out his cell phone. He looked at the caller ID, then back at Quentin.

"It's them," He simply said. Quentin looked at his phone, then scrunched his face, then looked back at Lucas.

"You have Coach's ID name as 'Uncle Jonny'?" He asked him. Lucas shrugged.

"Well, he is my uncle...WAIT THAT'S NOT THE POINT!" He said, as he answered the call. "HELLO-" He paused to let out a cough and lower his voice back to normal, "Hello? Yes...this is he....yes...yes...okay...Wait, really? Seriously? Um...okay, thanks for the call..yeah, bye," Lucas hung up the phone, the same boring, plain expression he had before. He looked at Quentin, who sighed.

"That doesn't look good," Quentin said, sadly.

"It looks great, actually, you know...since I just got on the line-up for the team," Lucas said, causing Quentin's mouth to drop.

"You made the team!?" He asked him.

"Hell yeah I did!" Lucas shouted. He and Quentin went in for another bro-hug.

"WE'RE GOING TO BE IN THE NHL!"
